This winter has seen a considerable following of military boots. It’s reached it’s peak when I saw Dane Bowers in a pair entering the celebrity big brother house and I recoiled in shock horror. It’s got boring and it hurts me when they are worn with any jeans that aren’t skinny. You can’t even get away with a carrot fit. The low ones are nice, but you can’t skimp on ’em. Get the real ones or none at all. SO. If you don’t want to do DM’s, do the right thing and get a pair of desert boots. You can make them work with actually anything casual and the clumpy sole is the best thing to have on your feet this winter. You can pick up pair’s really cheap, but they are often a hideous shape and the toe will collapse (comes from personal experience when I wanted some black ones on a budget of under £20) but you shouldn’t need to spend more than £50.

As claimed on the label, Clarks do ‘The Original’ desert boot, and although the stigma of Clarks is getting your foot measured with that strange device when getting some school shoes, their desert boots are the best safe bet. The toe is solid, the shape is nice and rounded and the quality of suede (I don’t own a leather pair, so can’t comment on that quality) is fantastic. Mine are nearly a year old and although a bit battered, when worn with the right things, they only get better.
